WASHINGTON, D.C. – The men’s and women’s doubles entry lists for the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open are among the strongest in tournament history, with current and past Grand Slam doubles champions joining former World No. 1 players, past DC winners and several top singles stars. Recent Wimbledon men’s doubles champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten kick off their hard-court swing in DC alongside Wimbledon women’s doubles champion Taylor Townsend, last year’s DC doubles finalist Ben Shelton, hometown hero Frances Tiafoe and recent ATP Masters 1000 doubles champion Sebastian Korda.

Heliovaara and Patten, the top seeds this year in DC, saved three championship points in the Wimbledon final to defeat Aussie duo Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson 6-7(9), 7-6(8), 7-6(9). The Finnish-British duo began playing together in April and lifted titles in Marrakech and Lyon before clinching their first Grand Slam title in London.

Purcell and Thompson will complete in DC as the No. 2 seeds. They have won three doubles titles together this year in Dallas, Los Cabos and Houston. Thompson also lifted his first ATP Masters 1000 doubles crown this May in Madrid with Sebastian Korda.

Shelton’s breakout singles success came on the back of his run to the doubles final last year at Rock Creek Park with Mackenzie McDonald, which marked his maiden ATP Tour final. The American returns to the doubles court this year with seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion and two-time DC doubles finalist Ivan Dodig, who finished runner-up here in 2015 and 2022.

A pair of former DC doubles champions will also team up as Jamie Murray (2018) and Michael Venus (2019) look for more success in the nation’s capital. Murray is a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion and first held the No. 1 ATP Doubles Ranking in2016. Venus won the 2017 Roland Garros men’s doubles title and been a Grand Slam finalist on four other occasions.

World No. 15 Santiago Gonzalez teams with Lloyd Glasspool. Gonzalez won his first ATP Masters 1000 doubles titles last November in Paris and reached the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon with fellow Mexican Giuliana Olmos who is also competing this year in DC with Alexandra Panova.

In the women’s doubles draw, World No. 7 Taylor Townsend and fellow American Asia Muhammad are the highest-ranked pairing. Townsend teamed with Katerina Siniakova to win her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon by defeating Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe 7-6(5), 7-6(1). The 28-year-old American has been in two other Grand Slam doubles finals and her maiden WTA final came 11 years ago in DC with Eugenie Bouchard.

World No. 10 Nicole Melichar-Martinez also headlines the doubles draw with another American in rising star Ashlyn Krueger. The 30-year-old American has enjoyed plenty of success recently with Aussie Ellen Perez, finishing runner-up last year at the season-ending WTA Finals in Cancun and lifting titles this year in San Diego and Bad Homburg. Her lone Grand Slam title came in mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2018.

Several top singles stars will also pair up for doubles including Frances Tiafoe and Thanasi Kokkinakis, Mackenzie McDonald and Reilly Opelka, and Karen Khachanov and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Sebastian Korda enters the field this year with fellow American Vasil Kirkov.

Two other notable pairings include two-time Grand Slam doubles champion and former World No. 1 Marcelo Melo teaming with fellow Brazilian Rafael Matos, and Miyu Kato partnering with Aldila Sutjiadi. Kato won her first Grand Slam title last year in mixed doubles at Roland Garros.
