While main draw play doesn’t begin until Monday, the Mubadala Citi DC Open kicks off this weekend with men’s and women’s qualifying.

Former World No.9 Robert Bautista-Agut headlines the men’s qualifying bracket as the No.1 seed. An 11-time ATP titlist, Bautsita-Agut earned his 400th career ATP match win in April. The 36-year-old will be featured in the third match of the day on Stadium Court when he faces University of Virginia alum Thai-Son Kwiatkowski.

Kwiatkowski, 29, will be making his fifth appearance in the DC qualifying bracket, having advanced twice previously to the main draw. The 2017 NCAA singles champion plans to retire in the coming weeks and will be competing in Washington for the final time.

DC native and JTCC alum Andrew Fenty will face Shintaro Mochizuki in the first match of the day on the Grandstand (10:00 a.m.).

On the women’s side, DC native Hailey Baptiste, who grew up within walking distance of the Rock Creek Tennis Center, will look to earn her way into the main draw for the second straight year.

Last summer, Baptiste cruised to consecutive wins in the qualifying bracket before upsetting former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova in the first round of the main draw.

Baptiste, 22, will look for more of the same this weekend as she opens her 2024 DC account against Taylah Preston in the second match of the day on Stadium Court. Baptiste won her WTA debut at her hometown tournament in 2019 with a first-round upset of Madison Keys.

The opening match Saturday on Stadium Court features American wild card and 2019 French Open semifinalist Amanda Anisimova against Emina Bektas.
